Osvaldo Ardiles
Osvaldo César Ardiles (born 3 August 1952 in Bell Ville, Córdoba Province - Argentina), nicknamed Ossie in the UK, when playing for Tottenham Hotspur FC, is a former attacking midfielder and football manager, who won the FIFA World Cup 1978 with Argentina.
Really competitive and skilled midfielder, he became a sort of cult hero in England, together with Glenn Hoddle and Argentinean Ricardo Villa, playing for Tottenham Hotspur in the 1980s and winning two FA Cups (1981 and 1982) and the UEFA Cup 1984.
On 7 February 2008, Ossie Ardiles, along with his fellow countryman Ricky Villa, was inducted into the Tottenham Hotspur Hall of Fame.
Manager in different nations (UK, Japan, Croatia among the others), in the mid-1990s, when he was coaching Tottenham Hotspur, he famously played several matches utilizing a formation with five forwards. It was something never used in English football since the 1950s!
Club Cerro Porteno (Paraguay) in 2008 has been his last club as manager. During the FIFA World Cup in South Africa Ardiles was enlisted by RTÉ Sport for their squad of pundits.
