Polish myth Boniek at 2009 Golden Foot
After Oleg Blokhin, another football legend comes from East of Europe to reach Monte Carlo. The greatest Polish player of all time, ZBIGNIEW BONIEK, will receive 2009 Golden Foot career award on 12th October. In 1982 he arrived in Italy from Polish team Widzew Lodz. Zibě became one of the most important players in Juventus FC where six world champions where playing and he made an impressive duo with Michel Platini. Boniek passed through the Sovietic iron curtain, something unusual at the time, to become a star in Italy where he played for Juventus FC (1982-85) and AS Roma (1985-88). He won one championship, two national cups, one Champions Cup, one European Cup winner Cup (he scored the decisive goal during the final against FC Porto) and one European Supercup, where he scored twice against Liverpool FC. In 1978 and 1982 he was named Polish player of the year. With his national team (80 caps and 24 goals) Boniek reached the 1982 World Cup semifinals, another historical result for Poland. He became a legend for the nickname Giovanni Agnelli, Juventus FC president and famous Italian businessman, gave him, Beauty at night, because of his particular talent that made him play his best matches at night. After Nilton Santos, Rummenigge, Higuita and Blokhin, the Eastern wind will blow on CHAMPIONS PROMENADE, where also the Polish Boniek will leave his footprints close to the greatest of all times.
