ANTONIO CARECA

Antônio de Oliveira Filho , worldwide known as Careca (Araraquara, 5th october 1960) is Brazilian national team former striker, in the World Cup 1986 and 1990. During his first Cup, in Mexico, he scored 5 times, just one goal less than Gary Lineker who won the top scorer competition. Definitely tall and strong (182 cm x 76 kg), his best skill was to “play the ball”, like the midfielders playing with him. For this reason, Careca was defined one of first modern striker at the top level. After spending 10 years scoring in the home land Brazil, with Guarani and San Paolo (100 goals / 144 appearances) he came to Europe, playing with Diego Maradona at Napoli. Scudetto (1990). Italian Super Cup (1990) and UEFA Cup (1989), with 73 goals (164 appearances) were his “gift” to the Italian fans. In the 1993 moved to Japan where played for Kashiwa Reysol. Finally, in 1997 ended up the career, back to Santos, playing 9 matches with 2 goals. Actually, Antonio Careca lives in Campinas (Brazil) and works as talent scout.

- Careca won the Bola de Ouro in 1986. The prize is the equivalent of the “Best Brazilian player of the year”.

- In Campinas, Careca is the manager of a youth team, Campinas Futebol Club, with former player Edmar.
