ROONEY BETTER THAN CHARLTON?
Gary Neville has backed team-mate Wayne Rooney to beat Sir Bobby Charlton's scoring record for Manchester United FC. Rooney, 23, netted his 102nd goal for the Old Trafford club with a successful penalty in victory over Arsenal FC. That still leaves the England striker some way short of club legend Charlton's record haul of 249. But with time still on his side, current United skipper Neville believes Rooney will one day pass the mark set by Charlton. "There is a long time to go before he gets there but Wayne does have an opportunity to beat Bobby Charlton's scoring record," he said. "He will have to play a lot more games and stay clear of injury because that record has stood for many years and will be very difficult to break. But a player of his ability should score goals..” Rooney is 18th on the all-time list behind such occasions. as Ruud van Nistelrooy and Cristiano Ronaldo, who found the net on 118 times.
