Samuel Eto’o was given the privilege to launch the 'Afcon Without Aids' campaign in Gabon’s capital Libreville in the presence of the country’s First Lady, Sylvia Bongo Ondimba. Ondimba's foundation initiated the programme in collaboration with Caf to help enlighten locals and visitors against fresh infections during the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations kicking off on January 21 in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. A TV commercial starring the Anzhi Makhachkala forward and Gabon international goalkeeper Didier Ovono was also shown to the public, depicting the principal theme of the campaign: “During a football match, 300 people die of Aids and five new infections occur during every minute of stoppage time.”
