Ronaldo wrote on Wednesday on Twitter that he was discharged from a hospital the night before and is recuperating, after apparently contracting the mosquito-borne disease while on holiday at a north‑eastern Brazil beach town. Ronaldo thanked his fans for the well-wishes he has received, writing that he is treating the disease, resting and hoping to get better soon. Then, he also joked with Brazilian journalists while visiting Corinthians team. "I could infect you!", he said smiling.
