Edson Arantes do Nascimento was a quiet and reserved kid who loved football very much, In the games played in the street he made his opponents, also the older ones, look really poor players. Among the kids that he met in the streets of his hometown there was a playmate who without a real good reason always called Edson with a nickname, Pelé, that Edson did not like at all. He even got to threaten that kid to beat him in order to make him stop calling him that way. That nickname, however, slowly stuck on him and stayed with him for the rest of his life.
